Ajmer: Five days after the murder of her live-in partner by her family members, Karishma Choudhary, 24, died by suicide Thursday morning by hanging herself in her room in Dharna village, Nagaur. Family members transported her body to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.On June 21, the body of Sahdev Ram, 28, was discovered in the jungle of Jayal, Nagaur. Authorities reported that he was abducted from Ajmer by Choudhary’s relatives. Ajmer’s Civil Lines police apprehended four members of Karishma’s family in connection with Sahdev’s murder. Police said Karishma was married to Chenaram when she was 11 years old. When she turned 20, Chenaram’s family demanded ‘gauna’ — for her to be sent to the groom’s house. While enrolled in a nursing course at a college in Tarnau, she developed a relationship with her teacher, Shadev Bhakar, and began living with him. She sought legal counsel along with Shadev to annul her child marriage. This action was opposed by both Karishma’s and Chenaram’s family, who sought revenge and prepared for an honour killing. On June 14, when Sahdev travelled to Ajmer for a nursing examination, relatives of Karishma and Sahdev kidnapped him from the central bus stand. Subsequently, his father filed a kidnapping case after a friend reported the incident. On June 21, Sahdev’s body was located in the Jayal jungle. Sub Inspector Radha Kishan of Jayal said that on Thursday morning, members of Karishma’s family forcibly entered her residence, transported her to the hospital, where police found her dead. Police are investigating the case, and the arrested individuals are on remand as authorities seek information on other accused parties.
