Jaipur: In a significant move to empower young women, Rajasthan govt has started giving 5% bonus marks to girls who have a black belt in self-defence in its admission policy for state-run colleges. This initiative started last year, but only 15 students benefited from it. This year, officials said, the college education department is spreading awareness about this benefit for girl students accomplished in self-defence.According to the admission policy, “5% bonus marks will be given to girl students having the highest category of self-defence Black Belt qualification for determining priority in the admission merit list in govt colleges.” Officials added that Rani Laxmi Bai Self-Defence Classes are provided in two Jaipur colleges—Sanganer Girls College and Jaipur College of Girls. These classes equip students with personal safety skills.Om Prakash Bairwa, commissioner of the college education department, said, “Now, anybody can take regular admission into govt volleges at any age. Earlier, students were required to take admission within two years of completing Class 12, but this guideline has been removed now. The enrollment for girls has increased from 52.15% in 2021-22 to 61% in 2025-26. Whether you’re 20 or 30, married or a single mother, or someone who paused her studies due to personal loss, everyone can begin once again.“To further increase female enrollment rates, there is a provision to give a 3% bonus to girls in co-education colleges of the state govt.
