Former professors protest at rajasthan university over pension delays

Jaipur: Many former professors and teachers at Rajasthan University staged a protest outside the vice-chancellor’s secretariat Monday over pension anomalies and delays. In this sit-in, organised on the call of the Rajasthan University Pensioners Association (RUPA), the members raised the issue of pensions not being given to employees of Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur. The association said that if Rajasthan University does not learn from this problem and take up the matter with the state govt, pensioners from RU will also be affected as “universities in the state are in crisis.” Former RPSC chairperson and VC of Kota University Prof BM Sharma along with other senior professors like Roop Singh Bareth, Lad Kumari Jain and Ramesh Arora, also joined the protest.Addressing the sit-in, president RUPA, prof HS Sharma said, “When the state govt is taking the responsibility of the salary of the university employees, then it should also take the responsibility of the two major components of the salary, pension and gratuity. In the changing environment of higher education, the financial condition of Rajasthan University is not such that it can discharge the responsibility of pension and gratuity of the employees at its own level.
