Jaisalmer: A 60-year-old farmer was allegedly beaten to death by his son and several relatives during a dispute over money from the sale of agricultural land in Barmer district, police said Thursday.The incident took place Wednesday night at Siyolon Ki Dhani in Shobhala Jetmal village. The victim, Rawata Ram, sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked with sticks and other blunt objects. He was taken to Barmer District Hospital, where he died during treatment Thursday morning.According to police, the dispute was over money received from the sale of the victim’s agricultural land. The accused, identified as the victim’s second son Rekharam, allegedly had been demanding a share of the sale proceeds.Police said Rekharam allegedly arrived at his father’s house along with his father-in-law, brother-in-law and others Wednesday night to demand the same. An argument allegedly escalated into violence, during which Rawata Ram was assaulted with sticks, hockey sticks and a cricket bat.The victim’s brother, Kistura Ram, alleged that Rekharam and six to seven others were involved in the assault. He said Rekharam was living separately and disputes over the land sale money had been continuing for some time.Following the death, family members and villagers staged a protest outside Barmer District Hospital, demanding the arrest of all those named in the case.Sadar police station SHO Kartar Singh said a case was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s brother against the victim’s son, his father-in-law, brother-in-law and other accused. Police have detained two to three suspects for questioning, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
