JAIPUR: Education minister Madan Dilawar Monday announced compulsory daily sports period for primary classes in govt schools, directing physical education teachers to ensure regular sessions.He also instructed district collectors to clear encroachments from school playgrounds to boost student participation in sports.“We have often seen that physical education teachers take students to the playground only once or twice a week. From now on, sports or physical activities will be conducted daily for all classes. This can be before or after recess, but must be followed mandatorily in all schools, especially for primary classes,” Dilawar said.The minister said the aim is to give every child an opportunity to participate in sports and support their physical development.“Instructions have also been issued to district collectors to remove encroachments from school playgrounds and to allocate land where such facilities do not exist,” he added.Officials said the dept plans to identify students for block-level training to prepare them for district-level competitions under the ‘One District One Sport’ initiative.Under the initiative, kabaddi has been assigned to Ajmer, Chittorgarh, Nagaur and Jaipur; women’s wrestling to Alwar and Bharatpur; volleyball to Barmer; football to Baran, Dausa and Sawai Madhopur; basketball to Bhilwara, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Pali and Sikar; archery to Bikaner, Banswara and Sirohi; athletics to Bundi, Churu, Jalore, Sriganganagar, Tonk and Pratapgarh; hockey to Dungarpur, Dholpur, Hanumangarh and Rajsamand; gymnastics to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer; wrestling to Kota; swimming to Udaipur; and tennis-ball cricket to Karauli.
