Cops blamed for Jaipur-Delhi e-way death; 4 sent to lines

Jaipur: A 60-year-old woman from Agra in Uttar Pradesh was killed, while her husband and a police constable were injured, on Jaipur-Delhi expressway in Chandwaji area early Saturday morning when a truck crashed into a stationary one. The family of the deceased accused police of causing the accident as cops attempted to extort money by stopping the truck. Four constables from Chandwaji police station were removed from field duty and sent to lines in response to the family’s complaint. The crash occurred around 4am near Manpura flyover. Premmati Kushwaha died on the spot, while four others were injured. The victim’s family alleged that the truck was stopped by Chandwaji police’s patrolling vehicle under the pretext of overloading. They claimed the cops demanded money in return for not penalising and seizing the truck. While an argument was underway, Premmati stepped out of the truck. She was standing nearby when another truck crashed into the one allegedly stopped by the police.About 20 people were travelling to Khatu Shyamji temple in the truck. The grieving family staged a protest by placing the body on the highway, blocking traffic for three hours between 4am and 7am. The protest ended only after senior police officers arrived and assured action.Four policemen from the patrolling unit were sent to police lines. A police officer said a probe is underway and the personnel may face suspension if found guilty. Police have also seized both trucks involved in the crash.A police officer at Chandwaji police station said the truck was stopped because some passengers were hanging their feet outside. He denied the family’s allegation that the police attempted to extort money.
