Jaipur: Congress Tuesday stepped up its attack on BJP after the NEET-UG 2026 examination was cancelled over allegations of a paper leak, with former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully accusing the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP govt of negligence and trying to suppress the issue.Reacting to the controversy, Gehlot said it was “beyond understanding” that the examination was conducted on May 3 and students started alleging a paper leak on the same day and the following day, yet authorities failed to act promptly.“It is difficult to understand why no FIR was registered despite students complaining on May 3 and 4 that the paper had been leaked,” Gehlot said. He added that repeated paper leak controversies over the past three years deeply demoralised the country’s youth.“Now the question is that paper leaks have occurred continuously in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Our young generation is extremely distressed because of this. This is a very big challenge. We must find a permanent solution to this problem,” the senior Congress leader said, calling the incident “very unfortunate.”Jully alleged inaction despite complaints from candidates. “Now the examination authority has cancelled the exam citing a paper leak, it is clear how irresponsibly BJP govt handled the matter,” he said.Jully also claimed that 89 paper leak incidents took place during the BJP’s 10 years in power, which he said reflected the “harsh reality” of the govt’s functioning. He accused the BJP of making tall promises and claiming strict action during elections while allegedly failing to protect the future of students. “Paper leaks have now become the identity of BJP rule,” he alleged, adding that to maintain its image, govt kept the future of lakhs of students at stake for nearly two weeks. “This is not just administrative failure but proof of the BJP’s organised irresponsibility and insensitivity towards youth,” he said.
