Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Saturday launched Bharat Taxi, a govt-backed, driver-owned cooperative ride-hailing service, by flagging off its operations at HCM RIPA in Jaipur. The CM said Bharat Taxi is a cooperation-based ownership model, through which ‘Sarathis’ are now also becoming owners.The platform, which recently rolled out its customer mobile application in Jaipur, claims to offer rides at fares 10%-15% lower than those charged by app-based aggregators such as Ola and Uber. It also said it would not levy surge pricing during peak hours, a feature that often increases fares on competing platforms.
Sharma said that under this arrangement, accident insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh has also been made available, which will ensure protection of their rights and security of their future.

According to the platform, passengers booking cab rides of up to 11 km will save around Rs 25 compared to prevailing market rates. Through the new customer app, passengers will get facilities such as affordable fares, zero surge pricing even during peak hours, transparent and fixed rates, SOS emergency facility, local and reliable drivers, and better customer support. In this arrangement, the taxi driver will not only be a service provider, but also a member and participant of the cooperative institution. He will receive payment for the journey directly and will also get a share in the institution’s dividend.Bharat Taxi describes itself as the country’s largest cooperative mobility platform, with a model that makes drivers stakeholders in the platform instead of merely service providers. The CM said that after the soft launch of Bharat Taxi in Jaipur, more than 30,000 Sarathis have joined it so far and about 7 lakh customers have become part of this platform.Union minister of state for cooperation Muralidhar Mohol, Rajasthan minister of state for cooperation (Independent Charge) Gautam Dak, and several other dignitaries attended the launch event.At the program, Sahakar Taxi Co-operative exchanged Memorandums of Understanding with RCDF, Nagar Nigam, Jaipur Metro and RSRTC. After the program, Sharma and union minister of state for cooperation flagged off a fleet of more than 100 cabs, bikes and autos of Bharat Taxi.
