Jaipur: Continuous rainfall has once again exposed the fragile state of civic infrastructure in the city, with waterlogging, potholes and caved-in roads crippling daily life. Anger against the municipal corporations is mounting, as residents resorted to protests and even posters to highlight official apathy.In Ward 12 under Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H), residents of Maan Bagh in Jaisinghpura Khor staged a sit-in Tuesday at the local T-point, demanding immediate relief from severe waterlogging. They alleged that despite repeated complaints, no remedial action was taken, and rainwater has now entered homes. Councillor Akhtar Hussain said encroachments on drains had worsened flooding. “Earlier, water from the walled city used to flow towards Kanota Dam via Jal Mahal. But over time, colonies were built and drains blocked, diverting the entire flow into our ward,” he said. Water has risen nearly a foot in the lanes, submerging parts of Delhi-Jaipur highway. “The wall of the culvert at Ramgarh Mod puliya also collapsed. Just a week ago, two children lost their lives after being swept away in these waters,” Hussain added. JMC-H Commissioner Nidhi Patel said officials had inspected the site and appealed for calm. “Talks have been held with JDA and other departments. This time a final solution will certainly be worked out,” she said. Meanwhile, in Ward 37 of Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G), a portion of the road near Brij Bal Mandir School caved in three days ago. With no repairs carried out, locals on Tuesday put up a poster on the crater reading, “Nagar Nigam Haye Haye” (Down with the Corporation). Councillor Ramesh Chandra Gupta said he had been flagging the issue for five days but his complaints were ignored. “This road was constructed by the PWD. Wherever they worked, the condition is the same. Nobody listens, and the corporation seems indifferent to public suffering,” Gupta said.
