Jaipur: Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra Saturday said Bhajan Lal Sharma will not remain the chief minister for five years, while reiterating that the state’s BJP govt will last five years. Dotasra accused the BJP govt of deliberately delaying local body and panchayat elections by misusing constitutional provisions. The Congress party will launch a major movement against the govt for not conducting elections for urban bodies and panchayati raj institutions on time, he said. “Under no circumstances can Bhajan Lal stay as CM for five years because he hasn’t done anything significant. However, the BJP govt will last five years, and the public will face difficulties because of that. We will keep fighting for the people’s cause,” said Dotasra while briefing the media in Jaipur on Saturday. Dotasra earlier remarked that Gehlot might have some input on removing the CM. “We will see when the situation changes,” he said.Dotasra said the BJP govt does not want to conduct local body polls until 2027. “This is why the govt has constituted the OBC Commission after the completion of 18 months of its tenure. They want the matter to get entangled in the court. They fear a backlash if elections are held on schedule. The BJP wants to delay polls to avoid public scrutiny on local development failures,” he said. He directed his party workers to conduct a thorough examination of the delimitation work of urban bodies and panchayati raj institutions to ensure that the voter list revision work is done correctly in the future. On the notice to RLP Chief Hanuman Beniwal to vacate his house and the disconnection of power at his residence, Dotasra said, “They only cut his power connection, but out of political malice, they sent the ED to me. BJP harbours political malice and acts accordingly, violating the constitution and the law. Whether it is Beniwal or Dotasra, they act with political malice towards everyone.”Dotasra said that since the govt is deliberately ignoring the constitution, district Congress committee meetings will be held next week, and then demonstrations will be initiated against the govt at the state and district levels. Under his leadership, a joint meeting of state Congress officials, assembly coordinators, and district presidents was held at the state Congress headquarters Saturday.
