Jaipur: Retirement from the Army did not mean hanging up the boots for 42-year-old Himmat Singh Rathore. Instead, the Rajputana Rifles veteran has marched straight into the Guinness World Records, setting a staggering benchmark on Oct 24 by performing 670 push-ups in a single hour—all while carrying a 60-pound (27.2 kg) weight on his back and keeping one leg raised.Singh joined the Indian Army in 2003 and retired in 2020 after nearly 17 years of service. He spent nearly a decade deployed in Jammu & Kashmir, serving in sensitive sectors like Poonch and Rajouri, alongside stints in challenging high-altitude terrains including Siachen and Doklam.“After retirement, I turned toward fitness training and began coaching young aspirants for Army and police recruitment. I trained across multiple push-up endurance categories, including 500 push-ups in 10 minutes, 1,200 to 1,500 in 30 minutes, and 2,200 in an hour. My ultimate goal was to shatter the existing Guinness World Records benchmark,” Rathore told TOI on Thursday. His pursuit of extreme fitness extends beyond push-ups. In April-May 2025, the veteran also undertook an Everest expedition, successfully climbing up to the iconic Hillary Step region.
