Jaipur: The rush of Diwali shoppers put the Walled City’s traffic arrangements to the test on the very first day.The traffic diversion plan, introduced Friday, appeared to fall short after 9pm, with traffic jams reported across several parts of the Walled City. Vehicles piled up on busy roads, while pedestrians also struggled to make their way through the crowded markets. With the situation highlighting the challenges of managing the festive rush, the traffic police have deployed 600 additional personnel in the Walled City from Saturday evening. The extra deployment will continue Sunday as well to manage traffic at busy market stretches and key junctions.

Additional CP (Traffic) Pradeep Mohan Sharma said, “We knew that such a large crowd would turn up. Around 2,000 of our personnel were deployed for panchayat election duty and they returned today. So, 600 additional personnel have been deployed in the evening on Saturday. If required, we will also make changes to the diversion plan.”
