Jaipur: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jodhpur has constituted a five-member inquiry committee to investigate the case of eight women developing serious post-operative complications Monday following caesarean deliveries at the Paota District Hospital. The committee has been tasked with examining the operation theatre, medicines, possible infection sources and medical procedures undertaken before submitting its report.Health and medical education minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar said Tuesday that the condition of six of the eight affected women, who are being treated at Paota District Hospital, was stable. The condition of two other women who were referred out from the facility for advanced treatment was also reported to be stable, he said.Khimsar added that detailed reports relating to two maternal deaths reported Monday from Nagaur and Didwana had been obtained, and that no case of medical negligence was made out in either case.In Nagaur, the delivery of one Rukma Devi was completed successfully, and both mother and infant were initially stable. She later complained of chest pain and was referred to a higher medical centre, but died on the way due to a suspected heart attack, the minister said.In the second case reported from Didwana, the minister said the patient had an extremely high blood pressure of 200/150 and died before delivery despite efforts to stabilise her.Meanwhile, principal secretary (Health and Medical Education) Gayatri Rathore reached Jodhpur late Monday night and reviewed the condition of all eight women. She met with them and their relatives and assured them the very best medical treatment.Rathore also chaired a review meeting at the Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, directing officials to ensure regular check-ups, haemoglobin testing, screenings and follow-ups of pregnant and postpartum women. She instructed hospital staff to comply strictly with SOPs, conduct self-audits and maintain sufficient availability of staff, medicines, equipment, ICUs, OTs and essential services. She later inspected the Umaid Hospital, including its maternity services, labour rooms, operation theatre and post-operative ward, and directed tighter compliance with medical protocols.
