Jaundice spike in Ajmer sparks protest over contaminated water

Ajmer: A sharp rise in jaundice cases in Dholabhata, mostly among children, triggered a Youth Congress protest Tuesday, accusing PHED of supplying contaminated drinking water. A health survey found nine of 10 tested children suffering from hepatitis, while three of nine water samples failed quality tests. Similar complaints had earlier surfaced in Shastri Nagar and Jhons Ganj. Youth Congress president Mohit Malhotra alleged “drainage-mixed water” was being supplied and demanded action. PHED officials admitted pipelines run close to drains, causing leak-related contamination. Engineers have been asked to inspect pipelines and submit a report within 24 hours.
