Jaipur: Around 40 children from vulnerable communities visited Jaisinghpura Khor police station Thursday in an outreach initiative aimed at reducing fear of the police and helping children understand where to seek help in unsafe situations. The child-friendly police station exposure visit was organised by civil rights group Chetna, in collaboration with Jaipur Police. The programme is part of efforts to strengthen child-friendly policing and build trust between children and law enforcement.Police personnel took the children through the functioning of the police station, explained emergency support services and responded to their questions on policing, safety and child protection.Station in charge Hariom Singh briefed the children on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and urged them to immediately report abuse, child marriage, child labour or forced alcohol consumption.“If you ever feel unsafe or see a child being exploited, do not stay silent. Come to us or call the helpline. We will protect your identity and take immediate action,” Singh said.Former Jaisinghpura Khor SHO Mukesh Kumar said such visits help children see police stations as places of support rather than fear. “Children should never hesitate to approach the police whenever they need help. Exposure visits like these replace fear with trust and help children understand that police stations are safe spaces where they can seek protection, guidance and support,” he said.Deepesh Kumar Sain, project coordinator at Chetna, said the initiative would help children better understand the role of the police while contributing to a more child-friendly Jaipur. For many children, it was their first visit to a police station. A 12-year-old girl from Jaisinghpura Khor said the interaction changed her perception. “I had never entered a police station before. After meeting the officers, I realised they are kind and helpful,” she said.Approximately 300 children have visited eight police stations and interacted directly with Station House Officers (SHOs) and police personnel.
