Jaipur: Rajasthan Police has intensified its crackdown on people filing false criminal complaints, securing convictions against 75 complainants in June and initiating prosecution against nearly 1,900 others accused of misleading investigators.The statewide drive targets those who allegedly file fabricated cases of rape, robbery and other serious offences to settle personal disputes. Police said the action is intended to deter misuse of the criminal justice system and ensure that false complainants face legal consequences, including imprisonment and fines.Acting on the directions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, police have been instructed not to simply close false cases but to seek prosecution of complainants whose allegations are found to be fabricated.Additional Director General of Police (Crime) Bipin Kumar Pandey said courts across the state convicted 75 people between June 1 and June 28 after accepting police findings that they had lodged false criminal complaints. “The convicted individuals were sentenced to imprisonment and fined,” he said.During the same period, courts took cognisance of 1,870 cases in which police investigations concluded that the complaints were false, clearing the way for prosecution.Police said false complaints are often filed over land disputes, financial transactions, family feuds and personal rivalries. Whenever an investigation establishes that a complaint is false, police now submit a report before the court seeking action against the complainant under relevant legal provisions.Nagaur recorded the highest number of such cases, with courts taking cognisance in 292 cases, followed by Jaipur Rural (247) and Alwar (212). Hanumangarh led the state in convictions with 18, followed by Pratapgarh with nine and Jaipur Rural with six.Police Headquarters said false complaints not only cause hardship to innocent people but also divert resources from genuine victims.
