Jaipur: Five Rajasthani dialects have been incorporated into the Union govt’s artificial intelligence-powered Digital Bhashini initiative for language translation. The information was shared by Amitabh Nag, chief executive officer of Digital India Bhashini, while speaking to TOI Thursday on the sidelines of the 29th National Conference on e-Governance.Bhashini is a govt project developed by the ministry of electronics and information technology under the National Language Translation Mission. It aims to make the country’s digital public infrastructure more inclusive by bridging language barriers and improving accessibility through artificial intelligence.Nag said the Rajasthan govt, which has already signed an MoU with Bhashini, has enabled the platform to incorporate five dialects from the state, including Marwari, Mewari, Dhundhari, Harauti and Bhili, laying the groundwork for AI-powered public services in local languages.“Rajasthan can demonstrate how artificial intelligence improves everyday governance by enabling people to contribute their own dialects and speech patterns to train language models. The technology is designed to reduce administrative bottlenecks by replacing manual data entry with speech-based interactions,” Nag said.He added that instead of citizens waiting at govt counters while officials type information into computers, conversations can be converted into digital records in real time, allowing employees to focus on service delivery rather than paperwork.Nag said similar interventions could streamline doctor-patient consultations in public hospitals, assist citizens seeking legal guidance through AI-powered chatbots such as the one already available on the Department of Justice portal, digitise panchayat proceedings by automatically generating meeting records, and make govt websites accessible in multiple languages.“Multilingual AI could also expand opportunities for students, help entrepreneurs from smaller towns communicate more effectively with investors and institutions, and open new avenues for universities and researchers to develop locally relevant AI applications,” he said.
