Jaipur: The Assembly Wednesday passed the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2025, for the development of the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Jaipur.Health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar said that the establishment of RIMS would make Rajasthan a leader in advanced medical services and promote medical tourism.He announced that the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) would be upgraded, and the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) would be established on a 40-acre area. RIMS will offer world-class and super-speciality medical facilities similar to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. The state govt has allocated an appropriate budget for its establishment, which will bring a new dimension to specialised medical treatment in the state.Singh emphasised that efforts are being made to ensure the availability of quality medical services in the state. RIMS is expected to be ready in the next two years and will provide free treatment to eligible patients under govt schemes, reducing the burden on other govt hospitals. RIMS will function as an autonomous institution.According to the bill, the state govt can declare any constituent college of the university or any college established by it as a govt college. In such cases, the administrative control and all assets, including land, buildings, and laboratories, will be vested in the state govt.RIMS will function as an autonomous institute and university, granting degrees, diplomas, and other academic recognitions under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. A governing body will be formed, including experts from prestigious national institutions like AIIMS New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, and IIM. It will offer super-specialty services like cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, urology, plastic surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, CTVS, and transplant units.Additionally, new sub-specialty departments such as paediatric cardiology, geriatric medicine, rheumatology, reproductive biology, genetics, biotechnology, nuclear medicine, sleep medicine, and critical care will be established.
