Spl public prosecutor held for taking bribe in Bikaner

Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Tuesday arrested a special public prosecutor posted in a special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe court in Bikaner after he was caught taking a bribe of Rs 500 from a complainant he was representing on behalf of the state. In a desperate attempt to destroy the evidence, he chewed the currency note and swallowed it when he saw the bureau team approaching.Officials said the prosecutor, advocate Jagdish Kumar, was demanding money to ensure that a key prosecution witness appeared in court for the speedy disposal of a case. He already accepted Rs 500 in June and demanded another Rs 500 from the same complainant.Additional SP, ACB Ashish Kumar, said Kumar initially demanded Rs 1,000 in total. After paying the first instalment, the complainant approached the bureau when Kumar asked for the remaining amount. A trap was set for Tuesday afternoon, and as soon as the complainant handed over the remaining Rs 500, the bureau team moved in and caught Kumar on the spot.Even though he swallowed the note in panic, officers said they had ample proof as his hands were smeared with the chemical powder used in the trap, and the entire operation was recorded on video. People outside the court were also seen recording videos as the accused was taken away despite his efforts to hide the evidence.
