Jaipur: A day after allegedly slitting his 80-year-old grandmother’s throat at their Bhatta Basti home, 25-year-old Pulkit Sharma told police during interrogation that he killed her because she used to “tease” and scold him whenever he went out or returned home, officials said.Police said investigators asked Sharma what had driven him to attack Vimla Devi. He initially remained silent before repeatedly giving the same response — that his grandmother used to “tease” him, officials said.The response has become a key line of inquiry as investigators try to establish what led to the killing. Police said preliminary questioning of Sharma’s relatives and friends had not revealed any previous history of aggression or violent behaviour. Those close to him told investigators that he had not previously displayed such conduct.Police said the family had told investigators that Sharma had been undergoing treatment for severe depression and other mental health problems for some time. Investigators are examining this information along with his recent behaviour and interactions with his grandmother, but have not yet established whether it had any connection with the killing.Sharma had returned home from a coaching centre on Tuesday afternoon and was alone with Vimla Devi when the attack occurred, police said. Neighbours later alerted his father after allegedly seeing Sharma walking on the porch with bloodstained hands and clothes.Investigators are also examining the nature of injuries suffered by Vimla Devi. A preliminary examination of the crime scene showed injuries to her hands and fingers, suggesting that she may have tried to defend herself during the attack.Police are reconstructing the sequence of events inside the house and questioning people who interacted with Sharma before and after the incident. Investigators are also examining whether there were any other circumstances or disputes that preceded the killing.Sharma was initially detained for questioning and was later arrested. Police said his interrogation was continuing and that they were yet to establish the complete circumstances and motive behind the killing.
