Jaipur: Rajasthan has fallen behind on several key targets under the Centre’s Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), with only 20% of identified tribal-majority villages achieving tap water saturation and just one Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) becoming operational, according to data tabled in Parliament. The figures were shared by the Union ministry of tribal affairs in response to a question by Rajsamand MP Mahima Kumari Mewar and other MPs. The ministry also cited implementation challenges across states, including delays in housing, road connectivity, healthcare, tribal hostels, agriculture and anganwadi centres due to procedural hurdles, land issues and coordination problems.According to the data, only 1,154 of Rajasthan’s 5,898 tribal-majority villages identified under the scheme have achieved Jal Jeevan Mission saturation. Nationally, 29,497 of 63,035 identified villages, or 47%, have achieved the target. Gujarat, Telangana, Goa and several northeastern states have reported 100% coverage.Healthcare infrastructure has also seen slow progress in Rajasthan. The state has operationalised only one Mobile Medical Unit despite receiving Rs 19.79 crore under the scheme, compared with 107 units in Odisha, 74 in Gujarat and 73 in Assam. The state’s progress on electrification has been equally modest. Of the 83,037 tribal households and public institutions sanctioned for on-grid electricity connections, only 11,598, or 14%, have been electrified. The state has, however, made better progress in some sectors. It has provided mobile tower connectivity to 274 of the 337 identified tribal villages, achieving more than 81% coverage. Under PMAY-G, 1.35 lakh rural houses have been sanctioned, of which nearly 63,000 have been completed. Of the 1.43 lakh LPG connections sanctioned under the scheme, more than 11,000 have been distributed to Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries. The ministry said it has stepped up monitoring through periodic reviews with line ministries and state govts to address implementation delays and improve coordination under the scheme, which seeks to accelerate infrastructure and socioeconomic development in tribal-majority villages through convergence of central welfare programmes.
