Jaipur: A family in Jaipur has alleged that their 14-year-old daughter was manipulated by an unknown man she befriended on Instagram into stealing jewellery valued around Rs 4 lakh from their home. The Jhotwara police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated a search for the suspect.According to the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the Class VII student was drawn into an online friendship with the accused about seven months ago. The mother claimed that the youth gradually gained her daughter’s trust before concocting a story about urgently needing money. He persuaded the girl to take gold and silver ornaments from their family locker under the pretext of pawning them for a loan, promising their return.
The theft came to light on July 15 when the family was preparing to attend a function and discovered that valuable jewellery, including three pairs of gold earrings, a pendant, and two rings, was missing. Initially, the girl denied knowledge of the theft but eventually confessed to her parents about the youth’s scheme.Police reports reveal that the accused convinced the minor to steal the jewellery while her parents were away and arranged to meet her nearby to collect the items. After the transaction, the suspect allegedly avoided her attempts to retrieve the jewellery, leading the family to seek police intervention when they realised the situation was serious, and the accused had no intention of returning their valuables.
