Woman critical after alleged wrong blood transfusion in Jodhpur

Jodhpur: A 24-year-old woman is undergoing treatment in the ICU at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital (MGH) in Jodhpur after allegedly receiving an incompatible blood transfusion at Ummed Hospital. Authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.Dhapu Bhil, a resident of Dawra Baori village in Jodhpur district, was referred to Ummed Hospital after a normal delivery on July 11 due to anaemia and post-delivery complications.According to hospital records, she received an O-positive blood transfusion on July 11 without complications. However, during a second transfusion on the night of July 12, she was allegedly administered B-positive blood. Family members said she developed severe shivering soon after the transfusion, and blood was noticed in her urine bag. She was shifted to MGH’s ICU the next day.Hospital sources said the error may have occurred because two women with the same name, whose husbands also shared identical names, were admitted at the same time.SN Medical College principal Dr B S Jodha said an inquiry has been ordered and strict action would be taken against those found responsible.MGH superintendent Dr Fateh Singh said the incompatible transfusion affected the patient’s kidneys, requiring continuous dialysis. He said her condition was improving but she remained under close observation in the ICU.Dhapu’s husband, Kishanaram, alleged the family was not informed that the referral to MGH was due to an incorrect blood transfusion. He claimed they were not given a clear explanation for her sudden deterioration.
