Jaipur: A man in Rajasthan’s Dausa district allegedly staged a ₹3.5-lakh theft at his house in a bid to gain the sympathy of his estranged wife and persuade her to return home. The plan unravelled during the police investigation, leading to his arrest for lodging a false FIR, police said Tuesday.Rajesh was arrested Monday for lodging a false FIR and misleading the police. Officers said the fabricated complaint not only wasted valuable investigative resources but also diverted attention from genuine criminal cases.According to police, Rajesh Saini, a resident of Toda Ganga village, alleged that burglars broke into his house on July 8 and stole ₹1.4 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewellery worth around ₹3.5 lakh. He lodged an FIR at Lalsot police station on July 10.Speaking to TOI Tuesday, Lalsot police station Circle Officer Surendra Singh said, “The first suspicion arose because if the theft actually took place on July 8, why did he wait until July 10 to report it?”Police asked Rajesh to recount the sequence of events from the night of July 7 until he allegedly discovered the theft the following morning. Investigators found inconsistencies in his account and subjected the house to forensic examination. “The forensic report revealed no signs of forced entry or evidence of trespass,” Singh said.During further questioning, Rajesh confessed that he fabricated the theft. Police said his wife left for her parental home after a domestic dispute a few months ago and was unwilling to return. Her family, too, refused to send her back. “Rajesh admitted he wanted to portray himself as a victim in the hope that his wife would sympathise with him and return home,” a police officer said.To make the story appear genuine, he allegedly broke the lock of his house, ransacked the rooms, and then lodged the complaint. Police later recovered all the cash and jewellery that Rajesh claimed were stolen, confirming that no burglary took place.
