After an evening of heavy duty pitching of ideas, it was Team Smart Bin Pulse that emerged as the winners of the Red Bull Basement India Finals in Bangalore. Ishan Preet Singh and Pulkit Goyal, the co-founders of Team Smart Bin Pulse out-thought five other finalists, as they booked their berth for the Red Bull Basement World Finals.Team Smart Bin Pulse’s winning vision is all about smart waste management solutions. The idea is rooted in the fact that garbage trucks often follow fixed routes, stopping at empty bins while nearby ones overflow, causing unnecessary pollution, traffic, and inefficiency. To put an end to what they call the ‘Urban Blind Spot’, Team Smart Bin Pulse created a smart waste management system that replaces outdated schedules with real-time decision-making.The team uses hardware that is installed in bins (sensors) to measure how full each bin is, and send that data to their software, Eco Stream AI. This system in turn predicts when a bin is about to be full and automatically creates the most efficient collection routes, ensuring trucks only visit bins that actually need emptying, saving fuel, reducing emissions, and cutting costs. To scale this idea, the team’s first port of call for this idea is their university campus, after which they hope to expand to private waste companies to prove its effectiveness, and eventually work with city governments.Team Smart Bin Pulse are also extremely delighted with the support from Red Bull Basement which has helped them turn this everyday problem into a structured, scalable startup by providing guidance, resources, and momentum.Judging some of India’s brightest minds on the day at the Red Bull Basement were the duo of Arjun Vaidya, Co-Founder, V3 Ventures and Rohit Gupta, Senior Marketing Leader, AMD.What is Red Bull Basement? The Red Bull Basement is a global innovation and entrepreneurship program organised by Red Bull, in partnership with Microsoft and AMD, that supports student founders who are building tech-driven ideas to solve real-world problems. It’s essentially a startup incubator for students, wherein you come in with an idea (often early-stage), and Red Bull helps you develop it into a real product or business. One of the most unique facets of Red Bull Basement is that it not only focuses on the long term but also, and more importantly, it takes a community building approach and paves the way for the best upcoming brains to be mentored by the top minds in the industry.Red Bull Basement not only allows the participants to get exposure and visibility but also access to a global start-up network.Speaking on the sidelines of the Red Bull Basement National Final, Arjun Vaidya, said, “Red Bull Basement is an outstanding platform for young ideators and college students for them to put their ideas out in a new setting.
