Jaipur: In a moving act of humanity, the family of 62-year-old teacher Kanhaiyalal Anand of Chittorgarh donated his organs Tuesday after he was declared brain dead at Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital, Udaipur.Anand had been admitted to the hospital on March 19. After doctors declared him brain dead Monday, his family chose to honor his long-expressed wish to donate his organs and help others even after death.Hospital medical superintendent Dr Harpreet Singh said the donation was carried out as per the rules and procedures of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO). He said Anand was declared brain dead, after which the family consented to organ donation in keeping with his final wish.His son Rahul Anand said the entire family stood together to fulfill what Anand had always wanted. He described his father as a dedicated teacher and a man deeply involved in social service, especially in supporting the education of underprivileged children. He said, “My father believed true service meant doing something meaningful for society and often said his organs should be donated after his death so his life could continue to help others.”Following the donation, both kidneys were transported from Udaipur to SMS Hospital, Jaipur, by air through a specially created green corridor, while his eyes were donated to the Eye Bank Society, Udaipur.The transfer involved close coordination between the Udaipur and Jaipur district police, Jaipur airport authorities, Central Industrial Security Force, and SMS Hospital. The kidneys were flown on IndiGo flight 6E7749. Jaipur airport allocated Bay No. 15, the nearest to arrivals, for quick access. A green corridor was created from the terminal to the porch, where an SMS Hospital ambulance waited in the VIP lane. City police and an interceptor vehicle escorted the ambulance to the hospital.The flight landed in Jaipur at 8.25 pm. The organ box entered the arrivals terminal at 8.33 pm, exited the terminal at 8.34 pm, and left the airport under police escort at 8.35 pm.Shivam Priyadarshi, head of the urology department at SMS Hospital, said two simultaneous cadaveric kidney transplants were being carried out that night using the organs brought from Udaipur.Later in the evening, Anand’s mortal remains were handed over to the family with full respect in the presence of hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, and staff. The farewell turned emotional as those gathered paid tribute with chants of “Kanhaiyalal Anand Amar Rahen.”
