Karauli police move to attach Rs 35 crore assets in online cricket betting case

Jaipur: Karauli police have begun court proceedings to attach properties worth nearly Rs 35 crore allegedly bought with proceeds from an illegal online cricket betting racket operating across several Rajasthan cities.SP Lokesh Sonwal said Monday an investigation into betting cases found that Karauli resident Aminuddin Khan alias Ameen had been running the syndicate for a long time.“The accused allegedly operated the network through agents based in Karauli, Hindaun, Gangapur City and Jaipur, allowing bettors to place wagers on cricket matches through digital platforms. The racket was actively involved in betting on several tournaments, including the Big Bash League, where large sums of money were wagered,” Sonwal said.He said the network used mobile phones, digital apps and online payment channels to handle betting transactions and maintain punters’ accounts. The action was taken under “Operation Shutter Down”, launched by Karauli police to dismantle illegal online betting networks in the district. So far, 16 people linked to the racket have been arrested.Police have valued the assets at about Rs 35 crore. As they are suspected to have been bought with proceeds of crime, legal proceedings have been initiated in court to attach them.
