Jaipur: The O N Dixit Memorial ITF World Tennis Masters MT-400 tournament got underway at the Jai Club here on Saturday. On the opening day of the five-day tourney saw matches being played across various age groups. The seeded players sailed smoothly in their respective opening rounds.In the men’s 75 category, Ashok Jindal upset Suresh Bajoria 6-3, 6-4 in a tough match and entered the next round.At the same time, top seeded player of this category, Dhawal Patel also registered a win and confirmed his place in the second round.In the men’s 35 category, Mishal Javia defeated Anirudh Singh 6-1, 7-5. Shailendra Choudhary defeated Jai Yadav 6-1, 6-3 in the men’s 40 group.Riyaz Ahmed trounced Ashwani Kumar 6-3, 6-2, while Ankur Kapoor won against Pankaj Ahlawat.In the men’s 45 section, Samrat Bhasin thumped Jai Ram 6-0, 6-3, while in the men’s 55 group, Nishad Jaiprakash prevailed over Rajendra Singh Sisodiya 6-1, 6-2.In the men’s 60 category, Lakpa Sherpa thrashed Shyam Sharma 6-0, 6-2, while Bhanu Pratap Singh accounted for Subhash Chandra Sharma 6-1, 6-0. Sharad Tak got the better of Dinesh D in a closely fought match 6-2, 4-6, (10-6).In the men’s 65 category, Ponniah Jayaram dismissed Rakesh Lal 6-1, 6-1, while Gorens Boyan made the light work of Richpal Singh Jakhar 6-0, 6-2.All the players participating in the tournament were provided with gift hampers from Parul Panasonic. The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held on January 18 at Jai Club which will be inaugurated by Awadhesh Kumar, Principal Director (Investigation), Income Tax Department.
