Yamuna pact to boost industry, investment and jobs: CM

Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Tuesday described the ₹34,102-crore Yamuna water project as a “game changer” for Rajasthan’s economy, saying the agreement would not only provide a lasting solution to drinking water scarcity in Shekhawati and other water-stressed regions but also accelerate industrial growth, attract investments and generate employment.Addressing a news conference at Jodhpur House in New Delhi, a day after Rajasthan and Haryana signed the Yamuna water MoA, Sharma termed the agreement a “golden chapter” in the state’s water history and said it was “not merely a water-sharing pact but the foundation for Rajasthan’s water security, prosperity and future development ”.He said improved water availability would create a conducive environment for industries, attract fresh investments and give a boost to agriculture, animal husbandry and tourism. “The project will reduce dependence on groundwater, strengthen water conservation and improve the quality of life in both rural and urban areas while laying the foundation for inclusive economic growth,” Sharma said.The CM said the project would provide safe drinking water to lakhs of families, strengthen the state’s long-term water policy and ensure water security for future generations. He described it as a milestone in building a “developed Rajasthan”, adding that the govt would closely monitor every stage of implementation to ensure timely completion.
