Woman held for stealing ₹13 lakh from husband after online betting losses

Bhilwara: Bhilwara police Monday arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly stealing ₹13 lakh from her husband’s cupboard and staging a burglary to cover losses from online betting.Bhilwara SP Sagar Rana said Sandeep Kumar Jain, son of Kailash Chand Jain, lodged a report at Bhimganj police station on June 23, claiming that a bag containing ₹13 lakh had gone missing from his house. Jain told police he had gone to the market with his wife on the evening of June 22 and returned around 10 pm to find an inner gate open and the cash missing from a room.Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the BNS, inspected the spot, scanned nearby CCTV footage, analysed BTS data and suspicious mobile numbers, and questioned family members.During the probe, police became suspicious of Jain’s wife, Kshipra Jain. On questioning, she allegedly confessed to the theft.“I bet online, and as I needed more money for placing bets. I gradually used the cash money kept by my husband in the cupboard. When I lost lakhs of rupees in the betting, I committed the theft at home and staged a fake theft, getting the case registered through my husband,” police quoted her as saying.Police arrested Kshipra and are interrogating her for further information.
