Toxic well gas kills two brothers in Deeg

Alwar: Two brothers died after jumping into a mud-filled well to rescue a woman in Deeg district Monday night, succumbing to toxic gas and oxygen deficiency, police said. The incident occurred around 9 pm in the Jurhaara police station area when Mahindra allegedly jumped into the well following a domestic argument. Her husband, Ravindra Valmiki (25), who had returned home drunk, jumped in to save her, followed by his younger brother Rohit (21). According to police, the two men managed to lift Mahindra out of the sludge and push her up, but got trapped in the swamp-like conditions inside the well. With little oxygen and possible toxic gases accumulated inside, both brothers suffocated to death. Villagers, alerted by screams, rushed to the spot and pulled all three out, taking them to a hospital where doctors declared Ravindra and Rohit dead. Mahindra, who sustained serious injuries, is undergoing treatment. Locals said the well was old and filled with mud, making rescue efforts difficult. Ravindra, a labourer, had married Mahindra in 2022, and she had arrived at her in-laws’ home in Badipur six months ago. Rohit worked at a factory in Palwal and had returned home the same day.
