Jaipur: Cabinet minister and MLA from Sawai Madhopur, Kirori Lal Meena, Saturday blamed “negligent” forest officials in Ranthambhore National Park for the recent spate of tiger attacks on humans.“I believe the officials are negligent and the monitoring is weak. As long as they remain in charge, these incidents will continue. I raised this issue with the chief minister and sought action against the officials concerned,” Meena said. His remarks came after a tiger attacked a crowd that gathered to watch it drink water at an anicut near Kailashpuri pond in Phalodi Range of the tiger reserve. A senior agriculture supervisor and a home guard personnel, who were part of the crowd, sustained injuries. The incident occurred Friday afternoon and once again highlighted dangers of unregulated crowd behaviour near wild animals.Environmentalists and wildlife experts, however, stressed that public conduct is equally responsible for such incidents. The growing trend of taking selfies near tigers, despite repeated advisories, led to unsafe situations, they said. tnn
