Jaipur: An eight-year-old girl was crushed to death by a speeding roadways bus in Bharatpur’s Nadbai area on Sunday morning, police said.Police identified the deceased as Arika, 8, a resident of the Tikri area in Deeg district.According to police, the child came with her parents to attend her maternal uncle’s wedding and was playing near the house when she came onto the road. Officials said the bus travelling from Attari towards Bharatpur hit her and moved ahead, trapping her under the rear tyre.Family members rushed out after hearing a loud noise and found the child stuck beneath the bus, police said. Following the incident, enraged villagers and relatives stopped the bus and staged a protest at the spot. Taking advantage of the situation, the bus driver fled, officials said.Police reached the spot with a police team and brought the situation under control. Police said the body was sent to the district hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Officials said the child’s father works as a labourer and the family is in deep shock.A search for the absconding driver has been launched, and further investigation is under way.
