Residents of Jaipur’s Kartarpura seek action on pollution
Residents alleged that wastewater from the facility is being discharged into the Kartarpura drain, which is connected to the Dravyavati River

Jaipur: Residents of Kartarpura have raised concerns over pollution from a railway-run laundry facility operating within the residential area, seeking its removal or relocation.According to residents, the unit is located along the railway line. The facility is located about 15 metres from a govt upper primary school, raising concerns about students being exposed to pollution and noise. A delegation submitted a representation to MP Manju Sharma, requesting intervention.A resident said, “Emissions from the facility are affecting air quality and causing health issues, particularly among elderly people, women, and children. The unit operates round the clock in a residential area without proper land-use conversion. There is also a govt school in front of the unit.”Complaints were earlier lodged with the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, which inspected the site in January and issued a notice to the railway authorities over alleged irregularities. Residents claim the unit lacks the required clearances, including a no-objection certificate, and does not have an adequate effluent treatment system. They further alleged that wastewater from the facility is being discharged into the Kartarpura drain, which is connected to the Dravyavati River. Continuous smoke emissions, chemical discharge and noise from machinery were also flagged by the residents.A resident said, “The Member of Parliament assured that a meeting with railway authorities will be held to examine the issue and take appropriate action.”
