Probe plaints againt RU VC Kateja: Guv to official

Jaipur: The governor’s secretariat Wednesday wrote to the divisional commissioner of Jaipur to investigate complaints made by students at Rajasthan University and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tikaram Jully against the varsity’s vice-chancellor, Prof Alpana Kateja.On April 3, students wrote to the governor’s office demanding a high-level investigation into alleged financial irregularities and academic administration in the university. On April 16, Jully also wrote to the governor demanding an investigation.Students alleged that in 2021-22, in the middle of the admission process for PhD, the rules of the interview were changed by issuing a new notification which was not in accordance with UGC norms. In their letter, the students also said a “large-scale scam was done in construction of Constitution Park” in 2024, as wrong facts were inscribed on the pillar at the park. Students said an inquiry committee was formed in this matter but decisions taken by the committee had not been made public.Rahul Kumar, who sent the complaint letter, said, “There are several financial irregularities being done in the university for which there is no investigation or update. Hostels are not being upgraded, food in the mess is of poor quality, minutes of syndicate meetings are being changed deliberately.”Students said that for over one and a half years, talks are underway for opening the Central Library at RU, but no action has been taken, due to which students are suffering.Sajjan Kumar Saini, a post-doctoral fellow at RU, who also sent the complaint, said, “Dictatorial and corrupt officials have no place in the university. The money of common students is being misused, and strict action should be taken against those responsible.”
