Bar association urges CJ to set up more benches in summer vacation

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Jaipur, has urged the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court to constitute additional benches during summer vacation to help address the growing backlog of bail applications and other urgent matters. The HC will observe summer vacation from June 2-29. The bar association also urged the Chief Justice to declare summer vacation as ‘partial working days’.In a formal representation Thursday, the bar association expressed concern over rising number of pending bail pleas, stressing that it directly affects the principle of speedy and natural justice, Bar Association general secretary Ramit Pareek said.It argued that the current system, in which only fresh bail applications filed during the vacation are considered, leaves older, pre-vacation cases unheard, resulting in unequal treatment of litigants. Citing recent measures adopted by the Supreme Court, the bar association highlighted how the apex court has started treating summer vacations as partial court working days. In 2024, the SC managed to dispose of more than 1,170 cases during the break.
