Jaipur: An elderly man was defrauded of Rs 6 lakh by cybercriminals posing as senior officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The fraudsters accused the 90-year-old of being involved in the Pahalgam terrorist attack and threatened him with digital arrest.According to an FIR lodged at Gandhinagar police station, the incident took place on May 23 when the 90-year-old man received a WhatsApp video call from someone claiming to be the NIA Chief. The caller alleged the victim was linked to terrorist activities in Pahalgam and demanded money from him to avoid legal action. He filed the FIR on Tuesday.Intimidated by the threat, the victim did not inform anyone. Instead, he filled out a cheque and sent his domestic help to the bank, transferring Rs 6 lakh via RTGS to an account provided by the fraudsters.The victim, who lives alone—his family is based abroad—was pressured by the cybercriminals over the next few days for more money, urging him to break his mutual fund investments.
