Jaipur: Unlike last year, when Jaipur faced an acute water crisis during peak summer, the supply of water from Bisalpur Dam is more than the demand this year. With the monsoon rainfall having raised the water level at the dam, public health engineering department (PHED) has increased the daily water supply from the dam to Jaipur, Tonk, and Ajmer, officials said.“Under the present weather situation, the demand for water in Jaipur is comparatively low. Still, we have increased the Bisalpur supply by 12 MLD to Jaipur. Water supply has also been enhanced for Tonk and Ajmer,” said a PHED official. “According to information we have, water level has risen by about 10cm at Bisalpur Dam since the beginning of monsoon. At present there is 20.39 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) water in the dam. With the monsoon still active in the state, no shortage of water for the three districts is expected until the next monsoon,” the official said.Officials of water resources department said the water level in the Triveni River, which carries water to the dam, is rising. After the recent rain in Bhilwara, the river is flowing at a water level of 1.9 meters.“Around 190mm of rain has been recorded so far in the Bisalpur Dam area. Going by the prediction of the meteorological department, we can expect more rainfall for another two months,” an official said.Last year, since May, Jaipur reeled under a severe water crisis as the demand was 2.5 times more than the Bisalpur supply. PHED officials admitted that the water supply system had collapsed in a few city areas.
