PHED contractors call off proposed strike
PHED minister Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary in talks with contractors union Wednesday

Jaipur: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) contractors in Rajasthan Wednesday called off their proposed indefinite strike after talks with the state govt in Jaipur. The decision came after PHED minister Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary assured the union that pending payments of Rs 2,500 crore would be released by May 2026, with another Rs 2,500 crore to follow by the end of June 2026.“The agitation has been suspended until May 5, 2026, after receiving the govt’s assurance on clearing long-pending dues. With the strike now called off, water supply operations and related development works across the state are expected to continue without disruption. The move has brought temporary relief to both contractors and the department,” union representatives said. The strike had earlier been planned from April 23 over delayed payments linked to various water supply projects.
