Jaipur: Residents and traders facing demolition along New Sanganer Road have moved Supreme Court against Jaipur Development Authority’s (JDA) road-widening drive, seeking urgent relief before the Oct 4 deadline for removal of structures.

Lawyer Sumit Tetarwal said the apex court accepted the petition Tuesday and listed it for hearing Thursday. Tetarwal had earlier secured a stay against a similar JDA eviction drive on Gandhi Path (West) in 2025.The move came a day after the high court sought JDA’s response to a petition by the local traders’ body challenging notices issued under Section 72 of the JDA Act, 1982. The notices were served by JDA enforcement officials late Sunday. The next hearing is on Oct 6.New Sanganer Traders Association chairperson Pawan Sahu said JDA had given residents and traders six days to remove belongings and demolish portions of their properties marked as encroachments. The deadline ends on Oct 3, after which JDA can begin the demolition drive.“JDA has given us six days to demolish portions of our shops or houses marked as encroachments and remove our belongings. So we decided to move Supreme Court for immediate relief,” Sahu said.Till Wednesday evening, none of the affected residents or traders had voluntarily removed belongings or demolished the marked portions.“We are not going to give up and surrender our assets to the state govt. The govt either needs to refrain from demolition or provide us appropriate compensation,” said resident Anuradha Meena.
