Jhunjhunu: Kotwali Police arrested one accused identified as Ramchandra from Noida in a case involving alleged cheating of Rs 17 lakh on the pretext of selling an SUV.Kotwali Police Station in charge Shravan Meel said the accused had been absconding for around 1.5 years and had been frequently changing hideouts between Delhi and Noida. Police teams conducted repeated raids in Delhi-Noida and tracked his location through technical inputs and bank account-related information. He was arrested on Sept 28 and brought to Jhunjhunu, where he was questioned, produced in court and sent to jail.The case began on Feb 7, 2025, when Sajid Diwan, director of a private company, filed a complaint at Kotwali police station. According to the complaint, the company intended to buy a Range Rover Defender-130 for official work and contacted Ramchandra, operator of Noida-based automotive-related services firm. The accused allegedly quoted the vehicle price at Rs 1,67,37,089 and assured delivery within six months.Police said the complainant transferred Rs 7 lakh on March 6, 2024, and Rs 10 lakh on March 8, 2024, totalling Rs 17 lakh, via RTGS from the company’s account to the account provided by the accused. However, the vehicle was not delivered even after six months. When the complainant sought a refund, the accused allegedly refused, following which a case was registered and investigation initiated.Meel said that in July 2026, the police team located the accused, but he was seen on stage during a CJP protest at Jantar-Mantar. Police did not arrest him at that time due to the presence of a large crowd and concerns over law and order.
