TNNJaipur: The Sindhi Camp police Monday busted a gang of interstate mobile thieves and arrested three accused, recovering 19 stolen mobile phones allegedly lifted from different parts of Rajasthan. The gang allegedly sold stolen phones in Mewat, Haryana, where they were used for cyber fraud. The investigation began after Mohammed Anas, a resident of Uttarakhand, lodged a mobile theft complaint at Sindhi Camp police station on Oct 4. During the probe, police found that the stolen phone had been sold through online marketplace OLX.The phone was subsequently recovered from a person in Beawar. “During questioning, the buyer told police that he had purchased it on OLX for Rs 5,000, providing investigators with a lead to the suspected network,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Prashant Kiran while talking to TOI.DCP Prashant Kiran identified the accused as Moin alias Shahrukh (25), a resident of Kafla in Tonk, currently living in Julahon Ka Mohalla in Ramganj, Jaipur; Mohammed Anas (28), a resident of Kundlaw Colony in Amer, Jaipur; and Haseeb Mew (22), a native of Nuh district in Haryana, currently living in Sharda Colony, Jaisinghpura Khor, Jaipur.According to DCP (West), Moin allegedly headed the gang and arranged mobile thefts and snatching incidents in Jaipur and other districts, sometimes involving young men who consumed intoxicants. “He collected the stolen phones and, through Anas, allegedly sold them to Haseeb for Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 each. Anas and Haseeb prepared fake bills for phones in good condition and listed them for sale on OLX, making it easier to pass off stolen devices as legitimately purchased ones,” he added. The investigations further found that Haseeb, who originally belongs to Mewat, Haryana, accumulated batches of around 20 to 25 stolen phones before arranging their delivery to an associate in the region.According to police, the accused have claimed during questioning that they had sent around 150 to 200 mobile phones to Mewat so far.Police are continuing their investigation to trace the recipients of the stolen devices, verify the alleged links with cyber fraud and determine the gang’s wider network.
