Jaipur: Three Gen Z candidates — two from Congress and one from BJP — have won their first electoral battles in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections, bringing a new generation of young councillors into civic politics.

Congress had fielded six Gen Z candidates, of whom 21-year-old Faiz Hasan and 22-year-old Suman Bhati won their respective wards. BJP fielded three Gen Z candidates, with 21-year-old Palak Yadav from Ward 10 emerging victorious.

Yadav defeated Congress candidate Vandana by 925 votes. After her victory, she said she wanted to focus on young people and planned to set up a library and install CCTV cameras in her ward. “Since I am young, I will also try to take care of everyone, from senior citizens to children,” she said.In Ward 71, Hasan defeated independent candidate Mohammad Salim by 170 votes. “I may be only 21, but I will always be at the forefront when it comes to serving people,” he said, adding that his victory showed people had rejected BJP.Bhati won Ward 72 by 2,364 votes, defeating independent candidate Rachna Kalosiya. “We faced a lot of difficulties from polling day to counting day, but the love and support of the people gave me strength,” she said.
