Jaipur airport likely to add 18+ flights under winter schedule

Jaipur: Jaipur International Airport is likely to see a significant increase in flight operations with the winter schedule coming into effect from Oct 25. The airport, currently handling an average of around 47 flights a day, is likely to add more services and is likely to have more than 60 per day.TOI Friday spoke to the authorities and some operators to know about the proposals and if some of the sectors which were dropped are to be resumed. The biggest increase is expected on high-demand routes such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.According to sources, Mumbai, which currently has around eight daily flights from Jaipur, is likely to see the number rise to 13 under the winter schedule. Flights to Delhi could increase from the present six a day to an average of nine.However, the proposed changes are yet to receive final approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Airlines have already submitted proposals for introducing new services, with final approval expected by the middle of Oct.Also, among domestic flights, a daily Jaipur-Jodhpur flight has already been finalised for the new schedule. Operators are also considering services to destinations such as Jaisalmer, Varanasi, Dharamshala and Bhopal depending upon the viability, although their schedules have not yet been finalised.Akasa Air is also scheduled to begin operations from Jaipur airport for the first time from Oct 11 onwards. The airline is expected to operate one flight each to Mumbai and Bengaluru, adding to the airport’s domestic connectivity.On the international front, Bangkok is likely to return to Jaipur’s flight network under the winter schedule. The final number of flights and destinations will depend on DGCA approvals and the schedules submitted by individual airlines.
