Jaipur: Repolling at Part 23 of Ward 62 of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation registered a high response Sunday, with 76.32% of voters turning up. Overall, 65% turnout got recorded in the civic polls held across Jaipur Friday.District election officials said polling passed off peacefully, with no untoward incident reported. “The repoll was confined to one booth at Govt Upper Primary School, Room No. 4, Tila Wala, Sanganer. The polling station falls in Pratap Nagar under the Bagru zone of the municipal corporation and the Bagru Assembly constituency. The booth has 587 registered voters, including 306 men and 281 women,” an official said.The State Election Commission had declared Friday’s voting at this polling station null and void after 110 voters, whose names were listed among deleted entries, were mistakenly allowed to cast their votes.Officials said extra precautions were taken during the repoll to prevent confusion. “Indelible ink was applied to the middle finger of the left hand instead of the usual index finger. The electronic voting machines used on Sept 11 were sealed separately, and fresh voting material was deployed for Sunday’s exercise,” another official added.Ward 62 has drawn significant attention because of the high number of contestants. It initially saw 20 nominations, while 13 candidates remain in the fray. Along with candidates from the BJP and Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party have also fielded nominees. Nine independent candidates are contesting from the ward, making it one of the most crowded fights in the municipal election.
