Jaipur/Bhilwara: Rajasthan Speaker Vasudev Devnani on Sunday issued a strong counter to former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, mocking that he would “need another lifetime” to truly understand the ideology and functioning of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Devnani’s remarks came in response to Gehlot’s recent comments suggesting that Devnani was not only an RSS worker, but also being considered as a potential CM candidate by BJP circles in Delhi. Speaking to reporters in Bhilwara and Ajmer, Devnani said, “Yes, I am an RSS worker, and I take pride in it. But Gehlot lacks even a basic understanding of what RSS stands for. He would need to attend a ‘shakha’, spend a year or two there, and undergo its rigorous discipline to even begin to comprehend the Sangh.” Taking a dig at the Congress veteran, Devnani added, “Gehlot should worry about his own party. Throughout his last tenure as CM, he was busy safeguarding his chair from internal conspiracies, especially from Sachin Pilot. Even today, his own party and central leadership hardly pay attention to him — neither do I.”On the bribery case involving Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Jaikrishn Patel Devnani said he had referred the case to the ethics committee for investigation and that the committee’s report would be presented during the assembly’s next session, which is likely to be held in the last week of July or the first week of August. If an MLA is sentenced to more than three years in jail, their membership to the assembly will be terminated as per Election Commission directives, the same way it was done in the case of former BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena, he said.
