Jodhpur: The driver of a dumper vehicle who allegedly mowed down a police constable on May 25 in Luni region, causing the constable’s death, turned himself in at a Jodhpur court Monday. Police took him into custody following the court’s directive for further inquiry. Police had declared a Rs 20,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Four others, including a sarpanch’s spouse, are already in custody in the murder case.On May 25, following a tip-off about unauthorised gravel mining, police arrived at the location in Luni region, but the dumper driver, Ranarama, escaped with the vehicle upon spotting them. During the pursuit, Ranarama halted the dumper on a dirt track and began disposing of the illegally extracted gravel. While he was doing so, constable Sunil Bishnoi attempted to detain the vehicle. Ranarama abruptly swerved the dumper and struck the constable. The vehicle’s rear wheel crushed Bishnoi’s midsection and lower limbs. He was rushed to MDM Hospital, where despite receiving treatment for three days, he passed away on the night of May 27.
