Bhilwara: A criminal allegedly opened fire on a police team from Hamirgarh area in Bhilwara district that had gone to apprehend him Friday before jumping into a river while trying to escape.SHO Sunil Kumar Beda said police received information about the movement of the accused Kamlesh Gurjar and reached near Swaroopganj Chauraha to trace him.On spotting the police team, Kamlesh, who was on a motorcycle, allegedly fired a round at the officers. The shot missed the target, following which police retaliated and chased him.During the chase, the accused jumped from a high-level bridge over the Banas River into the water below and sustained a fracture in his right leg. Police pulled him out of the river and first admitted him to Hamirgarh Hospital before shifting him to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital under police surveillance.Police have seized a pistol and a cartridge from the spot and registered a case against the accused related to attempt to murder, obstruction of govt duty and the Arms Act.Further investigation is underway.
