Jaipur: A week after a BJP-led board took charge of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Congress is yet to decide on naming the leader of opposition (LoP), even as Mayor Sunil Kothari and Deputy Mayor Saroj Kanwar already have begun meetings and reviews of civic works.Jaipur city Congress president Sunil Sharma said Thursday that the LoP would be appointed within 10 days and that the party would select a councillor who has the backing of most Congress councillors.Congress is also weighing social representation in its choice. With BJP appointing a mayor from the Jain community and a deputy mayor from the Ravana Rajput community (OBC category), Congress is considering a minority councillor for the LoP post and is looking at a new face.“BJP has always given important positions to people from upper castes, but Congress wants to give an opportunity to the minority community. We will bring a new face, and it will be from the minority community,” Sharma said. The LoP will be Congress’s key voice in the 150-member municipal corporation.
