Jaisalmer: Balotra Municipal Council sealed 15 meat shops Tuesday operating in the urban area for allegedly violating rules related to approvals and licences.The civic body carried out an inspection and verification drive across different areas of the city and sealed the establishments found operating without the required permissions and licences.

Municipal Council Commissioner Ashutosh Acharya said the shopkeepers had earlier been directed to obtain the necessary approvals and licences and comply with prescribed standards. However, as they failed to comply, action was taken against them and the shops were sealed as per regulations.Acharya said the drive against establishments selling meat without valid permissions or licences would continue. Inspections would also be conducted of establishments displaying meat or waste in public places, spreading filth, or violating prescribed hygiene and sanitation standards.

He said establishments found violating the rules could be sealed and other legal action could also be initiated against their owners.Municipal Council has appealed to traders to keep all necessary permissions, licences and business documents in place and comply with sanitation and other prescribed municipal regulations.
